Struggle or Ease: It’s a Choice

Businesses are conductors that channel the energies and resources available to create a product or service. The two lenses in the diagram below illustrate alternative ways in which your energies and resources may be focused. This focus determines whether your company experiences success and ease or whether it suffers with struggle and dis-ease. While the diagram on the left displays the typical way resources are being used in a business setting, the diagram on the right shows the focus and coherence leading to extraordinary results. The way on the left requires substantial more energy and force, while the way outlined on the right delivers desired results with much more ease and balance.

The Missing Link

When people come together to form a company – or any relationship – they are creating a new entity. This new entity has an Emotional System that is a direct reflection of the emotional blueprint – the emotional functionality or dysfunction – of the people involved.

When a company faces a problem – for example with raising funds or attracting customers – there is a dysfunction in the Emotional System of the team that translates directly into the problems of the organization. These problems are in the blind-spot of the company’s leaders and resist resolution.

Simply put: In areas where the Emotional System is functional, your business experiences flow; in areas where the Emotional System is dysfunctional, you experiences struggle and resistance.

Recognizing that problems in businesses are caused by the emotional blueprint of the team makes it difficult to solve organizational problems sustainably using traditional approaches. Solving the problems at their core requires the leaders and staff to become conscious and accountable for their contribution to the company’s Emotional System.
